My Life is a Cartoon

Maybe my life is not a cartoon, but I do like to draw little cartoons about some of the things going on in my life.

July in Review

House numbers, Fireworks, Strawberry Cakes, Yogurt, Loft Bed, Meeting partly missed & EKG passed.

As I look back over the July there are some good things happening behind the scenes, but I really am going to have to make a great effort to finish my other house and get it rented or sold.

Quote: Everybody prays whether [you think] of it as praying or not. The odd silence you fall into when something very beautiful is happening or something very good or very bad. The ah-h-h-h! that sometimes floats up out of you as out of a Fourth of July crowd when the sky-rocket bursts over the water. The stammer of pain at somebody else s pain. The stammer of joy at somebody else's joy. Whatever words or sounds you use for sighing with over your own life. These are all prayers in their way. These are all spoken not just to yourself but... - Frederick Buechner

Drive by Hair Style

At lunch my friend dropped me off at the Beauty Shop on her way to the store and then came back for me. Do you think she was trying to tell me something ;-)

I usually cut my own hair and I don't always have it completely even. The lady kept pointing that out to me. I don't think it will stop me from cutting it. Next time I will just check it out a little closer for evenness.

Low Rider

I have gotten so used to driving my truck. I drove The Girl's car and I felt like I was almost sitting on the road. It's sort of fun, but a little scary.

I think it was 104 today

I have always thought that I really didn't like yogurt, but I had some at work today and it wasn't too bad. So I stopped on the way home and got some more. I also got some bananas. I put a half a banana along with the yogurt, some ice and a little water in the blender. I have to say it was not bad at all and I think the calorie count was a lot lower than some things I could have had.

I'm also too full to eat anymore, so that's good. It was really neat looking too. If I had the right glass and a few little leaves from my mint plants in my flower bed it would have been really pretty.

Yes I have Junk in my Life

I've been struggling lately because I can't seem to stay away from some things like the news. I was following one story (really following) I thought when it got resolved I could stop reading the news, but I just happened to notice another.

Now there are about 4 things I feel this way about. There are really bad things happening in the world, but our focus can't be always on them and not on good things. Especially when they take our focus off of God.

Yes I can pray for them, but I don't have to cling to every new little bit of information that comes out about them. God already has all the information and why don't I just look to him?

I found a real Moggy Outfit ;-)

When I'm at the store I sometimes look for that perfect bright pink top and blue bottom. I think I found one that will do. I'm sure it was more exciting when Spiderman or batman put their outfits together.

I'm not sure what I can do wearing it, probably no special Moggy powers.

I will let you know if I notice any.

Hey the Power of Accurate Observation is not a bad thing. I'll take whatever power I can get ;-)

Some Days it's hard to diet

I had two different friends who just happen to have the same first name and just happened to both make strawberry cakes.

One brought hers to work and since I"m not in her work group I was pretty safe, but near the end of the day she sent me an email that said she had cake left over and would just throw it away if I didn't take it. <- oh the pressure ;-)

Then after work I went to a get together and the other friend brought a strawberry cake. What are the chances.

Trying to get together

My friends and I are so busy that sometimes it's really hard to get together. I think we had dozens of emails back and fourth before we finally settled on a place and a time to meet.

One friend I haven't seen in a really long time, so it will be really good to get together.

We both have a similar Texas country background and so it's easy to talk even if we haven't seen each other in a while.

I found it ;-)

I didn't want to worry anyone, but I lost my debit card Sunday and I just now found it. I didn't have time to look before because it was about bedtime when I got home from Church both Monday and Today.

I think I may have lost a little weight too. I had someone say to me both Saturday and Sunday "Are you losing weight?" now that is nice to hear.

If you are wondering where my card was, it was inside of my folded bulletin from Church.

A Calf and a Gate

I love it when a teaching has something that is really visual because it helps me to get it in my mind easier. Sunday we had a speaker who did that.

Part of it is about a calf that thought the grass was greener on the other side of the fence. We sometimes think what God has provided for us is not enough. Then we go through the gates that God has put in front of us we get into (and cause) trouble.

I have done that in my life. It did not have a good outcome. Ignorance is bliss until you follow it.

Another Dream

Last night I dreamed I was at the store and when I got to the checkout I had trouble finding my debit card (this has happened in real life). I started to look at what was on the counter and some of it was stuff I didn't recognize. I told the Checkout lady that some of it wasn't mine and she pulled a half eaten bag of Cheetos off the counter and tossed them in the trash.

I still had stuff in my bags that I didn't recognize. When I looked at my receipt and the stuff was on it I figured that it was my stuff. I was thinking I would have liked to see a playback of me shopping to see if I really picked up that stuff.

When I reflect on that dream I wonder how much stuff we pick up in life that's unintentional and unwanted and carry it along with us.

Quote: Never again clutter your days or nights with so many menial and unimportant things that you have no time to accept a real challenge when it comes along. This applies to play as well as work. A day merely survived is no cause for celebration. You are not here to fritter away your precious hours when you have the ability to accomplish so much by making a slight change in your routine. No more busy work. No more hiding from success. Leave time, leave space, to grow. Now. Now! Not tomorrow! - Og Mandino

How do people eat Spaghetti?

My cousin invited me over to eat and she had spaghetti. I envisioned myself with sauce all over and noodles hanging from me. The hard part for me is getting those long noodles out of the serving bowl. I know that you twist the fork in them, but they seem to just keep coming.

My other cousin and her three daughters and three grandkids had come up to visit, so they were distracted and I was able to get my glob of noodles without making a scene. It was really good.

weight loss incentive

I found a pair of pajamas that would look really great with my loft bed. They are a kids size, but I think if I bought the largest size and lost weight that I would fit into them.

Yes I know they are the wrong color, but just think I would look just like cat woman. Well maybe not just like her, but close.

Eating by the lake

I met a couple of friends after work at a restaurant by a lake. It seemed like a good idea (mine) to sit on the outside patio. For one thing I get cold really easy.

While we were out there it was NOT cold, but there were also flies biting our legs. The furniture was iron and they had taken in the cushions because they thought it might rain. We did finally get cushions.

Next time I think I will bring a sweater and sit inside.

Quote:
Fly the pleasure that bites tomorrow - George Herbert

I love that quote even though it took me a while to figure out what it meant. There are a lot of wrong things we can do and feel no pain for, till later.

I may just build it myself

I wonder how bad (or dangerous) it would be if I just built my own loft bed. I actually have an idea a little better than the one in the picture. I looked yesterday and IKEA had some in stock, but I didn't have time to go by there and this morning they are out of stock.

In my heart I really want to build it myself (with a little help from my Dad), but I keep telling myself I don't have time. Well not only do I think I should make my loft bed. I think I should make time to make it.

My first auction item

I bid on a rug and actually got it. It's not very big, thus not too much money. Not sure yet where I will put it. I have in mind to use it for prayer and meditation.

When I took a meditation class they talked about doing something like this and I think it might help. It's not that the rug really has anything special about it, I think if you used it to meditate, then as the habit grew your mind would sort of prepare to meditate when you got on it.

Sort of like pavlov's dog only instead a drooling you would be reflecting.

Pass the Pain Please

I've been watching some shows about Interventions. It's amazing the lengths that we go to in order not to feel pain. People take drugs, drink, and pretty much destroy their lives and the lives of everyone around them just to keep from feeling pain.

When we are not willing to feel many times we are in denial of the pain we may be causing others around us. After all If you were willing to see what you were doing to others, you might feel a little... well... pain :-/

Quote: Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever. - Lance Armstrong

Hand Reminder for Prayers

1. Relationship "Our Father in Heaven.."
2. Worship "Hallowed by thy name.."
3. Surrender "Your will be done.."
4. Ask "Give us this day..."
5. Confess "Forgive us our debts..."
6. Protect "Deliver us from evil..."
2. (again) Worship "For Yours is the Kingdom..."

They went over this in Church as something you can do as a reminder when your praying and how important is is to have a undivided heart when praying.

A picnic plate was used to show how our heart can be divided. It's so true that you can put God in a compartment of your life and not have him in every part of your life.

I may get a loft bed

I'm not sure how The Cat will like it, but I could put my easel on the top and paint up there and then put a bed under it. My ceiling is tall on one side of my bedroom.

I wanted to build one and I might do that later, but for now I think the fastest thing would be to go to Ikea and pick up one. My parents were coming to visit today, but I talked them into making it tomorrow so I can get ready and my Dad can help me put it together.

Every time I go on a retreat and there are bunks I grab a top bunk. I did fall off the ladder last time ;-) but I didn't get hurt.

Quote: My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint. - Erma Bombeck

Added later: Well I had seen that the bed I wanted was instock at IKEA before I went, but maybe they only had one and someone else bought it. I had been asking God if this was something I should get or not and I did want him to stop me if this was not in his will.

What I really hate is all the wasted time, funny thing is when I'm wasting my time it doesn't seem to bother me that much.

It's when I'm trying to accomplish something and circumstances waste my time ;-)

Also as you can see by the giant shelves of boxes they had plenty of everything else. I could have gotten a different size, or a different style, but that wasn't what I wanted so I came away empty basket-ed.

Enjoying an Echo

One of my blonde friends and I have been trying to walk at lunch time. It's too hot out in the sun, so we walk through the building and then back around through the parking garage. There is one narrow part where my friend makes a "whoop" noise to hear it echo.

Being more mature, I do not make a noise ;-)

It reminds me of a place I played when I was a kid. It was under the road and we called it "little echo"

I need to check my calendar more

Today I was walking down the hall to someones office and I noticed my co-workers all in a meeting room meeting with some other people. I had a feeling I was supposed to be there. I went back and checked my calendar and sure enough.

So I went in and sat down in the middle of the meeting. No one said anything, so maybe it was okay, but I'm going to start checking my calendar closer.

Now I see the problem with the numbers

I'm not sure now if they were ever asking me to replace the numbers on the front of my house. They want me to put numbers on the back of my house. I guess they are not willing to hold a mirror and look backwards to read the numbers ;-)

While I was on the phone about the numbers I saw the word "back" and understood what they were asking for.

Maybe Neon Numbers would work

I'm thinking that maybe they came by really late. I wonder if neon numbers would help them see my house. I'm going to call today and see what they want me to do. If it's too late then I guess they can do whatever it is and send me a bill ;-(

They are very strict here, but so far it hasn't been anything that I don't understand why. I did think my numbers looked good enough, but I do have a tree in the front that might have obstructed their view.

Or even better I could put up little signs all down the road "10 house till 1234" "5 houses till 1234" "3 houses till 1234" "You are now at 1234" ;-)

Larger House Numbers

I'm not quite sure how this will end up. Remember I got a note from the city that I needed larger numbers on my house. Well I put larger number on, but now I got another letter from them.

This time it says "final notice" I'm going to call them because I don't know why they didn't like my new numbers.

Painting Doors Brown

Today I painted a couple of doors at the old house wood cabin brown and also painted some more of the walls classic taupe. I don't know if it was the paint fumes, or if it really looks good, but I really liked the color. I will be so glad when this project is finished, although then I really need to start working on The leaning house of Moggy.

So far I'm been bringing things over, but have not gotten them in a good place. I have boxes all over the place.

Quote: When I judge art, I take my painting and put it next to a God made object like a tree or flower. If it clashes, it is not art. - Paul Cezanne

Now I know that painting a wall or a door is not exactly art, but the colors that the walls were before were very lifeless and it feels like art to add a color that seems to have some life to it.

Now for the Other Side of the Family

I don't really have any cousins that come to this one that I know very well and it's dwindling down where not too many people who come.

My Grandfather on this side passed away a few years ago at the age of 94, but he was one of the oldest kid of 12 in his family so I still have a few aunts and uncles left on that side. I don't see them all enough to recognized them. That's always a little awkward when people know you and are glad to see you and you don't have a clue who they are.

4th of July Fireworks

We were able to sit right out in front of the house and watch fireworks.

When they started I didn't know what was happening. It sounded sort of like someone was throwing a basketball against the side of my house. I looked out the windows and couldn't see anything, then I saw the fireworks. We took our lawn chairs out and enjoyed them.

I couldn't find a quote I liked about firecrackers, so I found this one with the word spark ;-)

The EKG came out good

They think it was just problems they were having with the machine that caused a problem before ;-) The nurse gave me the gown to put on before the EKG and closed a little curtain in front of the door, but there is a huge glass window that looks out over a small park and a busy road. It is on the fourth floor at least.

I didn't sing in my head this time, so that may have made a difference.

EKG Thursday morning

I went in last week and they were having trouble with the machine and then when they finially did get it to work, they said my heartbeat looked different.

So back I go for them to look one more time. I was singing inside my head and I will try not to today.
I don't know if your heart beat changes with the beat of a song, but just in case I will try to just meditate this time.

I never had to register a house before

Where I live if you want to rent your house you have to register it and then you have to pay them to inspect it and then if they find anything wrong you have to fix it or they will charge you a fine. I think you get the idea.

I'm almost ready.

I should be able to schedule an inspection next week. Then I will have a better idea of what it might cost me. Keep your fingers crossed that it won't be too much. The good thing is that it keeps people from renting out old houses that are falling down and not fixing them.
